The feature film Into the Mortal World is one of the new Chinese animated productions that celebrates local culture with a fantasy story arriving in theaters in a few days.
A co-production between the studios Winsing Animation, Bilibili and Alibaba Pictures with the story that tells of a love that marks a bridge between two worlds, the mortal and the celestial. A film that uses the traditional Chinese astronomical concept of the 28 mansion spirits as a quest for its star-crossed lovers, Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, to reunite on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, Qixi Festival.

Presented last month at the Annecy Festival, the producers describe it as "not merely an animated film [but] an invitation to discover the rich tapestry of Chinese traditions, culture, and folklore".

Conceived by a group of students from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2020 and finalized in a successful short film published on the Bilibili platform, the film Into the Mortal World (Luo Fan Chen in China) which develops and expands these ideas is directed by Zhong Ding, associate professor of the academy.

Expected in Chinese theaters from July 12, here is the subtitled trailer:
