A new feature film produced in Spain and titled The Treasure of Barracuda is presented by Filmax at Cannes. Below is the first information and images.
The original title is El Tesoro de Barracuda, based on the novel of the same name by Llanos Campos which will become an animated feature film produced by the Spanish studios Inicia Films and Hampa Studio and the Belgian studios Belvision.

The film tells the story of a young girl named Sparks who disguises herself as a boy and boards a pirate ship loaded with fearsome pirates. Although the swarthy crew has an abundance of muscles and ego, not one of the buccaneers knows how to read. But young Sparks does, making her an invaluable asset when hunting treasure.

It is the third directorial by Adrià Garcia, co-director of Nocturna (2007) awarded the Goya for Best Animated Film in 2008, while the story is written by Amèlia Mora (Snowflake) with the collaboration of the author Campos.

Producer Valérie Delpierre at Inicia says: "In 'The Treasure of Barracuda', we have combined narrative, aesthetics, and characters to reach a children's audience with an emotive and thrilling story. In this 2D aesthetic world created by the talented Adria Garcia and the whole team, a brave girl defies the norms as the sole reader in a universe dominated by men. With captivating character design, her adventurous spirit leads her to explore new horizons, overcoming obstacles and uncovering secrets in a story brimming with magic and courage."

The title is in preliminary stages of development and is being sold by Filmax for foreign markets these days at Marché du Film in Cannes.
