Aardman & Netflix - The beginning of a long friendship

Read...
British animation studios Aardman and the popular streaming platform Netflix are consolidating their partnership by announcing new titles currently in production.
The collaboration between the two brands, however, is to be brought back a few months, with the release last December of the short film/Christmas music special Robin Robin, also made in stop-motion, candidate for the short-list of the Oscars and of the BAFTA.

The joint press release signed by the Creative Director and co-founder of Aardman Animations, Peter Lord, and Netflix's Director of Film - Animation Aram Yacoubian, on the next two stop-motion feature films currently in production: the sequel to Chicken Run (2000) is a new adventure/misadventure of the legendary Wallace & Gromit.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is the sequel to the stop-motion film that grossed a whopping $225 million in world box office. Netflix will introduce it to its subscribers in 2023. Lord writes: "Over the years, a sequel was often discussed at Aardman but the studio needed the right story and the right partner. Following Robin Robin, another collaboration seemed like a no-brainer and the perfect time to bring back our poultry heroes to the world."

Synopsis: After escaping the farm, Ginger (voiced by Thandiwe Newton) has finally found her dream: a peaceful one island sanctuary for the entire group, away from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky (Zachary Levi) deliver a baby girl named Molly (Bella Ramsey), Ginger's happy ending seems complete. But returning to the mainland, the entire chicken breed faces a new and terrible threat.

The film is directed by Sam Fell (Flushed Away, The Tale of Despereaux, ParaNorman) to a script by Karey Kirkpatrick, John O'Farrell and Rachel Tunnard. The comedy will also star Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson, Josie Sedgwick-Davies, David Bradley, Romesh Ranganathan, Daniel Mays and Nick Mohammed.

Moving on to the second project, the new film by Wallace & Gromit (there is no title yet) will be distributed worldwide exclusively by Netflix except for the UK in which it will debut on the state network BBC.

The two multi-award-winning characters from Oscars and many other awards, born from the mind of Nick Park, will return with a new adventure and original story written by veterans Merlin Crossingham and Mark Burton and produced by Claire Jennings. The studios informs that the production status is on the final script and on the storyboard.

In the new film, we find Gromit worried that Wallace has become overly addicted to his inventions. When Wallace invents an "intelligent gnome" who appears to develop a mind of his own... as events spiral out of control, it's up to Gromit to put aside his scruples and fight against sinister forces, otherwise Wallace may never be able to invent again!
