Sony Pictures Animation's Connected acquired by Netflix

Read...
After skipping theatrical release last year, the feature Connected from Sony Pictures Animation change name and is acquired by Netflix.
Yes, because now the title announced is The Mitchells vs. The Machines, which was its original working title, certainly more relevant to the story.

The film is directed by Mike Rianda (Gravity Falls) and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, authors of the Oscar-winning film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and will tell us about the importance of human "connections" in a world where technology is taking over.

Synopsis: When Katie Mitchell, a creative outsider, is accepted into the film school of her dreams, her plans to meet "her people" at college are upended when her nature-loving dad Rick determines the whole family should drive Katie to school together and bond as a family one last time. Katie and Rick are joined by the rest of the family, including Katie's wildly positive mom Linda, her quirky little brother Aaron, and the family's delightfully chubby pug Monchi for the ultimate family road trip. Suddenly, the Mitchells' plans are interrupted by a tech uprising: all around the world, the electronic devices people love - from phones, to appliances, to an innovative new line of personal robots - decide it's time to take over.

Without a home (theaters) due to the pandemic, the studios have welcomed the offer of the streaming platform Netflix which will include it in its catalog within the year.

This film joins another interesting title, Wish Dragon [ news ], also produced by Sony Pictures Animation but with the collaboration of some Chinese studios (film that has had time to be released in Chinese theaters), also just purchased from Netflix.

Just this week, Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings announced: "We’re very fired up about catching Disney in family animation, maybe eventually passing them."

Waiting to know the release date, here the last trailer:
