Illumination Ent. surrenders - Minions 2 and Sing 2 in 2021

Read...
The health emergency that is sweeping the world is leading world producers to make important choices, not least those of the Illumination studios regarding its animated feature films.
The list of suspended, canceled and moved titles is really long and one of the Universal studios, the Illumination Ent., is added to these.

We had already talked about the suspension of activities of the animation studios in France [news] which had blocked the final phase of making the film Minions - The Rise of Gru, whose release was initially scheduled for this summer.

The studios have instead announced that it is all postponed for a year, in order not to clog the Christmas slot already full of films and to look for the excellent summer box-office.

To this title is added another, Sing 2, sequel to the 2016 blockbuster initially scheduled for Christmas 2020, then moved to summer 2021 to let the slot free for DreamsWorks Animation's The Croods 2 (studios also owned by Universal). From Summer Sing 2 now move on to the next Christmas.

Here the new release dates:

- Minions - The Rise of Gru - July 2, 2021
- Sing 2 - December 22, 2021

We know that there are many titles moved (some at the moment even without a new release date) of all the studios and only in a few months we will have a clear picture of the new release dates (which you will find updated on our "Release" page). In this week Sony has canceled Peter Rabbit 2 (new release in 2021) and Paramount has moved the new SpongeBob movie by 2 months (expected now at the end of July 2020).

We will keep you informed of further developments.
