Science SARU producing new Ghost in the Shell anime

There is still a wait but the premises are not bad. A new anime on one of the most iconic projects of Masamune Shirow is already in production.

Masamune Shirow's late '80s manga has become a phenomenon that has inspired and influenced the cyberpunk thriller genre for decades to come. It's hard to keep track of all the adaptations and productions that have gone under the Ghost in the Shell name, and the fire is far from over.

The new project featuring Shirow's stories and characters will come from the Science SARU animation studios, founded just over a decade ago by producer Eunyoung Choi and director Masaaki Yuasa.

The new series is titled The Ghost in the Shell and will mark the directorial debut of Mokochan (Dan Da Dan, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off), a student of director Yuasa. The script is written by science fiction author EnJoe Toh, while Shuhei Handa (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Spriggan) is the author of the character designs and executive director of the animations.

Expected in 2026, the first teaser published shows us storyboards, sketches and the first graphic lines of the project:
