Teaser for A New Dawn - new French-Japanese anime film


The new anime film A New Dawn is a co-production between French and Japanese studios. We are showing you the first animations below.


A New Dawn in international territory, Une Aube Nouvelle in France and Hana Rokusho ga Akeru Hi Ni (On the Day the Emerald Fireworks Are Lighted) in Japan, is the anime that marks the directorial debut of Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, a regular collaborator and illustrator of Makoto Shinkai.

Set in a 330-year-old fireworks factory that is about to be forcibly evicted. The story centers on two young people who grew up around the factory. Keitaro, locked in the factory for four years to perfect the legendary "Shuhari" firework in place of his absent father, and his childhood friend Kaoru, who left her home due to an accident and lives in Tokyo. When Kaoru visits Keitaro, the two hatch a surprising plan to find the secret of the long-lost firework.

The story is conceived and written by director Shinomiya himself, based on his personal experiences with the changing landscape after the 2011 earthquake. The staff includes Utsushita (Heavenly Delusion) as character designer, Akiko Majima as art director, Shuta Hasunuma as composer of the music, and the joint production of the Japanese studios Asmik Ace and the French Miyu Productions (Ghost Cat Anzu).
