Chinese box office hit Nezha returns with sequel

The first chapter of the Chinese feature film Nezha was a box office hit in 2019. Below we offer you the trailer for the sequel coming this month to theaters.

"I am Nezha the Third Prince, and I am back! The four sea dragon kings are approaching Chentang Pass, and millions of monsters are approaching. I must protect my homeland! On the first day of the Lunar New Year, I will celebrate the New Year with you in the sea!"

With these words Nezha 2 (orig. Nezha: Mo Tong Nao Hai) is introduced, a feature film also directed by Yu Yang and inspired by the 16th century Chinese story "Investiture of the Gods".

The first film in the franchise was produced by Chengdu Coco Cartoon and distributed in China by Beijing Enlight Pictures. The action adventure-fantasy film grossed $725 million worldwide, becoming the highest grossing animated film in China and the first of 2019 not produced by an American studio. It is also currently the fourth-highest grossing Chinese film of all time.

After the first film Nezha (2019), the franchise produced Legend of Deification (also known as Jiang Ziya) in 2020, while Nezha 2 will be released in Chinese theaters on January 29.
