The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel is in production
With a video released on the occasion of Mario Day, the producers of Illumination studios and Nintendo announce the production of a new animated feature film about the famous plumber brothers.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie released about a year ago in theaters all over the world, it grossed $1.361 million at the box global office, the second highest grossing result of the year surpassed only by live-action Barbie.
The two producers of the film, the father of Super Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, and the founder and CEO of the Illumination animation studios, Christopher Meledandri announce the start of production of a new film starring the famous Nintendo video game characters.
Meledandri talks about the imminent start of the animation phase at the Parisian studios Illumination Studios Paris (formerly Mac Guff) with all the staff reconfirmed including the two directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic.
At the moment only the date on which the distributor Universal Pictures will bring the film worldwide has been announced: April 2026. We will have more information in the coming months.
