Second position at the US box office for One Piece Film: Red

After the excellent box office receipts in Japanese and French theaters, the anime One Piece Film: Red achieves excellent box-office sales in North America as well.

Produced by Toei Animation, the film will have an original story written by Oda himself and scripted by Tsutomu Kuroiwa, directed by Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass series).

Created and produced by the characters' dad, Eiichiro Oda, One Piece Film: Red will feature a new character named Uta, who is the new teaser specifies being the daughter of Shanks (the pirate who gives his straw hat to the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy) whose voice is said to "change the world". Luffy and his crew will come to his rescue.

Last weekend it was released in 2,367 American theaters, taking second place overall with more than 9 million dollars behind the blockbuster Black Adam (first with 18 million in box office).

Excellent signs for anime productions outside national borders.
