Re:cycle of the Penguindrum - the return of the anime in two films
The anime Mawaru Penguindrum returns for its 10th anniversary with two films. Below the first trailer of the new productions.
The story is about three Takakura brothers: two male twins Kanba and Shoma and their beloved and fragile little sister Himari. One day, while visiting the aquarium, Shoma buys her little sister a hat in the shape of a penguin but shortly afterwards she falls ill and dies. At the morgue, however, Himari revives; the miracle is accomplished by the hat, possessed by an alien entity named Nadine who makes a pact with the two brothers. The sister will be able to continue living in exchange for the Penguin Drum, a mysterious object that the two brothers will have to find. Also helping them will be three bizarre handyman penguins visible only to siblings.
The new project Re:cycle of the Penguindrum, divided into two cinematic films, will revisit the original story of the series (24 episodes) by adding new sequences and new characters.
Leading this new project is Kunihiko Ikuhara, with the screenplay written by the director himself together with Takayo Ikami, the character designs of Lily Hoshino and the music of Yukari Hashimoto. The animations are produced by Brain's Base, the same of the original anime, together with Lapin Track which takes care of this new version.
The first film will be released in Japan on April 29 and the second a few months later.
