Masters of the Universe returns this summer with a new series
The legendary Mattel toys of the 80s and the famous animated series started in the same years are ready to return. Below the very first images.
He-Man, Skeletor and all the other characters are ready for new adventures in the new animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation, produced by Mattel Television and the Texan studios Powerhouse Animation (the same as the Castlevania series just ended).
Head of production is director and producer Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy). "I watched all the TV series growing up, they were everywhere in the 1980s. These characters started out as toys and ended up being part of the global pop culture fabric. Many of us remember these stories and these characters well and we are happy to return to Eternia," said Smith. "But even if you've never seen a single episode or don't know this universe at all, you can dive into this story. It's a truly classic and universal action-adventure epic about growth, discovery, magic and power. A series that explores destiny in a new way, about secrets, betrayal, trust, acceptance, love and, ultimately, loss."
Together with Smith we find the historical producers of the first series Frederic Soulie, Rob David and Susan Corbin, while writing the new episodes is Marc Bernardin (Castle Rock, Alphas), Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering) and Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen).
The new stories will pick up where the first series produced in 1983-1985 left off. After a catastrophic battle between He-Man and Skeletor, Eternia is fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull are scattered. After decades of secrets, it's up to Teela to reunite the scattered band of heroes and solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power, in a race against time to restore Eternia and prevent the end of the universe.
A high-level production with top voice talent: Mark Hamill (Skeletor), Lena Headey (Evil-Lyn), Chris Wood (Prince Adam / He-Man), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Teela), Liam Cunningham (Man-At-Arms), Stephen Root (Cringer) , Henry Rollins (Tri-Klops), Alicia Silverstone (Queen Marlena), Justin Long (Roboto), the eternal friend and colleague of Smith Jason Mewes (Stinkor) and many others.
Made mainly with two-dimensional animations, the first images show a high level of detail (the same series of Castlevania have seen an increasing quality produced by Powerhouse Animation). The first season, called "Part 1", will consist of 5 half-hour episodes and will be released on Netflix on July 23.
