Warner Bros. is also betting on Spanish production
The Spanish animated film industry has been growing strongly in recent years. After Paramount, Netflix and Skydance, Warner Bros. is also betting on the Iberian production.
After the latest Klaus produced by Sergio Pablos Animation and distributed by Netflix, Wonder Park by the Ilion studios Animation Studios then acquired by Skydance Animation and Capture the Flag (2015) and Tad the Lost Explorer 2 (2017) produced by 4 Cats Pictures and acquired by Paramount Pictures, now it's the turn of the Warner Bros. studios.
The film is a comedy for the whole family (like the titles listed above) and titled Moomios, produced by 4 Cats Pictures and animated by Core Animation (studios in Guadalajara, northeast of Madrid), the same as Capture the Flag and Tadeo Jones.
The eye of the big Hollywood studios is increasingly focused on Spain for numerous reasons. Production costs are very low, explains Pablo Nogueroles of Warner Bros. Spain, for example Moomios has a budget of around $11-12 million, very high for Spain but really a fraction for the productions of the same sector in the USA. Among other things, the territory has a high quality of life that attracts many talents from all over the world. The language is also among the most widespread on the globe, with over 500 million people across America and Europe speaking Spanish. In the United States more than 48 million people speak it.
We don't have much information on the film other than that it will be released worldwide in time for Christmas 2021.
