John Lasseter is now head of Skydance Animation

After last year's scandals involving Pixar with the departure of the studio's creative chief, John Lasseter, from a few hours instead comes the news of a transfer to other studios.

And the news is important precisely for the importance of the character, the one who made the Pixar the animation studios in computer graphics best known in the world, first to produce a feature film entirely in CG and recognized everywhere and rewarded with any awards for the originality of their stories.

After the news of last year, and the arrival last summer, of the new chiefs [news] at the head of the Emeryville studios, Jennifer Lee and Pete Docter, it was in the air that someone else would take advantage and make some offers to Lasseter.

Now we have the confirmation that to hire him is Skydance Media, putting him under contract just nine days after the end of the contract with Disney.

This is the news of the Skydance Media's CEO David Ellison, which reports that Lasseter will take place in Los Angeles offices of Skydance Animation early this month in the role of creative leader and responsible for strategies (no as director at the moment).

"I'm grateful to David and the Skydance team and know that I have been entrusted with an enormous responsibility," says Lasseter. "It is a distinct privilege that I will relish. I have spent the last year away from the industry in deep reflection, learning how my actions unintentionally made colleagues uncomfortable, which I deeply regret and apologize for. It has been humbling, but I believe it will make me a better leader."

"I want nothing more than the opportunity to return to my creative and entrepreneurial roots, to build and invent again. I join Skydance with the same enthusiasm that drove me to help build Pixar, with a firm desire to tell original and diverse stories for audiences everywhere. With what I have learned and how I have grown in the past year, I am resolute in my commitment to build an animation studio upon a foundation of quality, safety, trust and mutual respect."

It is good to remember that with this news, some American women's associations have expressed their disagreement precisely because of the facts that had seen the protagonist (in negative) John last year. But the head of Skydance, David, wrote in a letter the reasons that led him to hire John, the many meetings he had with him before making this decision and the reassurance of his efforts in last year.

Some of the active projects of the studios there are: Luck directed by Alessandro Carloni (formerly DWA) and written by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger; a fantasy directed by Vicky Jenson and written by Linda Woolverton and Powerless directed by Nathan Greno (director of Tangled recently snatched from Disney).

In partner with Madrid's Ilion Animation Studios and with Paramount Animation, we can not wait to see the best Lasseter back in action in the coming years.
