On November 26, 1940 for the first time appeared the anthropomorphic woodpecker in a short film produced by Walter Lantz animation studio and distributed by Universal Pictures.

Born from an idea of the great boss Walter Lantz, Woody is part of a group of characters drawn by the hands of Ben "Bugs" Hardaway (the one who laid the groundwork for Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck for the Warner Bros), Woody is one of the most popular so much that in the late '60s he had his own show called "The Woody Woodpecker Show".

Originally dubbed by the great Mel Blanc, the character has had some interesting cameos like that of Roger Rabbit's film in 1988 and is still present in the Universal Studios theme parks.
